Increasing emotional effectiveness within the AAPI community

About Debbie

Hi! I'm Debbie, a person of Filipino heritage, born and raised on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.  I'm a mental health provider and my clients are primarily BIPOC.

I have a passion for  teaching skills for improving emotional awareness, emotional regulation, communication, healthy boundaries and relationships.  I am a licensed in (LCSW) in OR and WA.

This  Catching Up community was created because emotional effective skills were not taught in schools or in our family of origin.  Being unable to talk about emotions can create feelings of anxiousness, anger, shut down, loneliness, and/or resentment.  It can lead to engaging in the silent treatment, self-blame, aggression, perfection, passiveness, and other unhelpful distractions as ways to cope.

Learning in a group setting can feel more natural or accessible for people of color.  Group learning is an effective and organic way to learn these skills and practices.

For those of you who made it this far and would like to know more about me…..
I spend time doing casual bike rides, kayaking, going for coffee/drinks with friends, dancing, playing DnD, creating themed experiences and eating my favorite foods.  I’m a mixed bag and little weird.  If you’re still reading this, or if you are also weird, we should meet over coffee/tea or a phone call.  Feel free to reach out.
